Honeycomb
shades are named after their appearance. They have a honeycomb structure when
they are seen open to the side that trap the air to insulate the house. The
cellular look looks like pleated shades, but these air pockets insulate, and therefore
the cellular shades come with more custom shapes and can cost more than other
window coverings.
Before measuring a
personalized cellular shade, it is important to keep these tips in mind. Use
only metal tape as tape or cloth tape is not as consistent and versatile. Next,
determine if the cellular blinds are to be mounted inside or outside the window
frame. Check the color, make and number of your awning to make sure it fits
inside your room. Examine the samples and compare to the catalog. Then determine
the location of the lift cord. Once you have written all the dimensions and
made an order, the custom blind can not be changed.

If your window has more
than an inch of space in the frame, an inner bracket is recommended.
Inside-mounted cellular blinds will take up less space and are less likely to
be accidentally disposed of. For a small half inch of honeycomb shades, about 1
½ of the frame space is required. Larger shades require more than two inches
for a recessed mount. Something less and the nuances will go beyond the frame.
Measure the width with
a steel tape measure at more than one location. The size of your blind will be
the smallest rounded measure of an eighth inch. The custom blind factory
automatically deducts the authorization to ensure that the blinds are in shape.
For size, measure twice and provide the longer number.
An exterior bracket
must be used when there is less than an inch of clearance on the frame. Measure
the dimensions of the molding, as this is where the supports will be mounted.
Add four inches to the frames without casting. This will allow two inches of
overlap to ensure that your cellular blinds provide a control of privacy and
light. The height of your cell shadow will be the distance between the top of
the mold and the threshold. Windows without molding will require about 2 inches
to fit.

Vertical cell blinds
are easier. The upper width is the critical measure since this can not change
once the custom cell blind is manufactured. For size, measure three times and
use the shortest dimension. Cell size is important because it affects the depth
of the window. A cell shade is a little more voluminous than a wooden blind.
Some small blinds are delivered in triple cells for maximum insulation. Sizes
greater than one inch appear cleaner, but only come in single-cell models. The
large folds resemble large slats on traditional blinds.
